Your day begins with departure from Rhodes at 09:00. As the boat approaches the harbor of Gialos, the main port of Symi, visitors are often amazed by the breathtaking view of hundreds of pastel-colored houses climbing the hills above the sea. The island has a population of around 3,000 residents and is known for its rich maritime history, traditional architecture, and relaxed island atmosphere.
You will arrive in Symi at approximately 10:05, where you will have plenty of free time until 14:00 to explore the island at your own pace. Wander through the charming harbor promenade, discover small boutiques and traditional shops, enjoy fresh seafood in a waterfront taverna, or simply relax with a coffee while taking in the spectacular scenery.
Symi is also famous for its local sponge diving tradition and handmade sponges, which have been an important part of the island’s culture for centuries. Visitors often enjoy exploring the small shops selling natural sea sponges and local products.
In the afternoon, the cruise continues to the Monastery of Panormitis. Located in a peaceful bay on the southern side of the island, the monastery is dedicated to Archangel Michael Panormitis and is renowned for its impressive baroque-style bell tower and beautiful waterfront setting.
You will arrive at Panormitis around 14:40, where you will have time to visit the monastery, admire its architecture, and experience the tranquil atmosphere of this sacred place.
At 15:40 the boat departs for the return journey to Rhodes, arriving after approximately 65 minutes.
This excursion offers the perfect combination of island beauty, culture, history, and relaxation, making it one of the most popular day trips from Rhodes.
